NACEX and Integra2 join Autonomous Ready Spain

  • The project by DGT and the Barcelona City Council for a safer driving through technology

NACEX and Integra2, the Logista Group’s parcel and express courier and controlled temperature capillary transport firms, have joined the Autonomous Ready Spain initiative, led by the Dirección General de Tráfico (Traffic General Directorate or DGT) and the Barcelona City Council.

The project is aimed at preparing the city for highly automated vehicles and protecting pedestrians and users of two-wheeled vehicles, the most vulnerable actors in urban mobility.

Thus, it is aimed at putting into circulation over 5,000 vehicles in Barcelona with intelligent devices warning of collisions with pedestrians and bicycles, as well as identifying risks points in the city to improve the road system and advancing in the development of the autonomous vehicle.

At that aim, NACEX will put at the project’s disposal part of its fleet of vehicles in Barcelona, which will be provided with these intelligent devices. “NACEX joins the Autonomous Ready Spain project, supporting the DGT and the Barcelona City Council in their commitment to road safety and the reduction of accidents in Barcelona”, says Manel Orihuela, deputy general manager at NACEX.

Along this, NACEX bets on the continuous renewal of its vehicles to secure that its fleet has the latest safety technologies and is less than 5 years old. It is also incorporating sustainable, ecologic and low emission vehicles as well as reducing routes by fostering urban mini-hubs. In Barcelona, 12 NACEX franchises already have that task and the company anticipates to continue increasing them as a highly efficient solution.

Efforts by Integra2 are focused on renewing its fleet with ECO and low emission vehicles, with the particular incorporation of those propelled by Gas (GNC and GLP), Hybrids (HEV) and electricity, as well as high capacity refrigerated mega-trailers reducing the occupation of road systems in long distance routes. “Integra2 in Barcelona will add to the project 60% of its capillary delivery fleet in the city of Barcelona”, says Pablo Rebollo, general manager at INTEGRA2. Within a year, the number of ECO-kilometers run has increased by 66.7%. NACEX and Integra2 may reliably report the CO2 emissions of each dispatch.

The Autonomous Ready Spain project already has 300 vehicles and 85 urban buses in Barcelona equipped with artificial vision cameras, interpreting the environment and sending both real time acoustic and visual alerts. The agreement was signed yesterday committing the incorporation of new vehicles and fleets, such as those from NACEX and Integra2, which, together with new technology-equipped TMB’s buses, will allow reaching a “secure fleet” of over 700 vehicles by the beginning of 2020.

Considering that 90% of traffic accidents are due to human causes, devices implemented in vehicles send information allowing to identifying risks points in the city, helping to improve the road system and collecting data to advance in the research and development of the autonomous vehicle.

NACEX and Integra2 actively participate in the Quality and Environmental Strategic Plan of the Logista Group, the only European distributor included for the third consecutive year in CDP’s “A List” as one of the global leaders fighting climate change after assessing data from nearly 7,000 companies worldwide. Logista is one of the 4 Spanish companies and 126 worldwide in the “A List”, adding to its recognition as “CDP Supplier Leader 2018”.
